About

The Journal of the Irish Society for the Academic Study of Religions is an international refereed online journal dedicated to the interdisciplinary academic study of religions. The journal, which is published by the Irish Society for the Academic Study of Religions (ISASR) in association with the Study of Religions Department at University College Cork, publishes papers in all areas of the academic study of religions including empirical, ethnographic, textual and theoretical studies of religions in diverse political, social and cultural settings, globally and in Ireland. The journal is strictly non-confessional in approach and promotes academic excellence in the study of religions. The journal welcomes papers in any area of the academic study of religions from scholars worldwide. As an important part of its mission, the journal encourages submissions from scholars based in the island of Ireland and papers concerned with religions in Ireland, thus offering a forum for critical reflection on religion in contemporary Ireland and the study of religions in the Irish academy.

The JISASR team hold strongly to the principle of free sharing of knowledge and research results without the barrier of a paywall. Thus, the JISASR follows an Open Source policy with open access to full text articles and book reviews by way of individual downloadable PDF files on this website. Additionally, each volume of the journal is archived in the Cork Open Research Archive (CORA), University College Cork’s institutional repository.
